Gwen Shamblin Lara (February 18, 1955 – May 29, 2021) was an American author. She is the founder of the Christian diet programThe Weigh Down Workshop and of the Remnant Fellowship Church. In her writings, she combines ideas of weight loss programs with those of Christianity.
Career
Lara began her diet practice in 1980 because she had weight problems in school.[3] She believed that genetics, metabolism and behavior modification alone couldn't explain why some people were thin and others were overweight.[4] In 1986, Lara founded the Weigh Down Workshop,[5][6] a weight loss program.[7]
Her first book was The Weigh Down Diet.[8] It was first published in March 1997 and has sold more than 1.2 million copies.”[9]
