Gnowangerup
Gnowangerup is a town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is about 355 kilometers southeast of Perth. The name "Gnowangerup" comes from an Aboriginal word that means "place of the mallee hen" or "where the mallee hen nests."[1]

History
The area is the traditional land of the Goreng people.
The town was started in 1912. It was a center for farming in the area. Farmers grew crops like wheat and raised sheep. A railway line was built to the town in 1925 to help farmers transport their goods. The railway closed in 1957.
Gnowangerup is the home of the Gnowangerup Aboriginal Corporation. This is a very old Aboriginal corporation. It started in 1989.
Geography
Gnowangerup is in a farming area. It is in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, near the Stirling Range National Park. The climate is a Mediterranean climate. It has hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
Demographics
The town has a small population. It is a service center for the farms in the area. Many people who live there are Aboriginal people. There is a school, a health clinic, and a small shopping area.
