George Michael Leader (January 17, 1918 – May 9, 2013) was an American politician. He was the 36th Governor of Pennsylvania from January 18, 1955 until January 20, 1959. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He was born and grew up in York County, Pennsylvania. As of 2013, he was the only person from that county ever to be elected governor of the state. His father was politician Guy Leader.
Leader was born on January 17, 1918 in York, Pennsylvania. He studied at Gettysburg College and at the University of Pennsylvania. Leader was married to Mary Jane Strickler until her death in 2011. Leader died on May 9, 2013 from natural causes in his home in Hershey, Pennsylvania, aged 95.[1]
