Genoa /dʒəˈnoʊ.ə/[a] is an unincorporated town in Douglas County, Nevada, United States.[6] Founded in 1851,[7] it was the first settlement in what became the Nevada Territory. The population was 1,343 at the 2020 census.[3]

  1. ↑ Unlike that of its namesake, the Nevada community's name is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable, /dʒəˈnoʊ.ə/ jə-NOH-ə rather than /ˈdʒɛnoʊ.ə/ JEN-oh-ə.[5]
