The Peru marsupial frog (Gastrotheca peruana) is a frog. It lives in Peru, in valleys in the Andes Mountains.[2][3][1]

Home

This frog lives high in the mountains. It lives in grassy places, puna, and on farms. People see it under rocks and on plants near ponds. People have also seen this frog in towns. Scientists have seen the frog between 2,300 and 4,600 m (7,500 and 15,100 ft) above sea level.[2][1]

Scientists have seen the frog in one protected place, Parque Nacional de Huascaran. They think it could also live in Huayllay National Sanctuary, Junín National Reserve, and Chacamarca Historical Sanctuary.[1]

Young

This frog has young in ditches, ponds that are there all year, ponds that dry up for part of the year, and other water that does not move. Frogs that live higher than 3,000 m (9,800 ft) above sea level hatch out of their eggs into small froglets. Eggs lower than 2,300 m (7,500 ft) above sea level hatch out of their eggs as swimming tadpoles. In between, they hatch into tadpoles that have legs.[1]

Danger

Scientists from the IUCN say the frog is not in danger of dying out. Scientists think the frog could be in some danger when people dig in the ground for good rocks.[1]

People sometimes sell this frog as a pet, but scientists don't think that puts the frog in danger of dting out.[1]
