Freedom 250

Freedom 250 is a program to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American (United States) independence. It takes place in 2026. It was established by the White House under President Donald J. Trump as part of the Task Force 250 initiative.
The program includes a motorcar race in Washington, D.C.[1] and a UFC (mixed martial arts) program in Washington in June.[2] Other events include a tall-ships parade in New York and a fireworks display in Washington (both on Independence Day). In the fall, plans include Patriot Games for high-school students from every state, and the opening of the Teddy Roosevelt Library.[1]
It also includes "Freedom Trucks," which are mobile museums that travel around the country throughout the year. These six trucks contain interactive and interpretive material about the country's origins and 250 years of history.[3] Two conservative organizations, PragerU and Hillsdale College, contributed to the museum content.[3]
Other parts of the celebration include a "Freedom Plane," which is planned to fly around the country, and a "Washington Monument Lighting & New Year's Eve Show" on the National Mall in Washington on New Year's Eve and the first days of 2026.[4]
Freedom 250 has been criticized by some commentators. For example, some historians have said a religious scene in a Freedom 250 brochure is not historically accurate.[5] Some Congressional Democrats and other critics have expressed concerns that the funding model of Freedom 250 could enable corruption.[6][7][8] A prominent combat athlete, Ronda Rousey, and others have criticized the UFC event.[9][10] The motorcar race has also been criticized, including by fans who disliked the proposed layout of the race course.[11]
Another organization established to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States is America250. It was created by Congress in 2016 as a bipartisan commission. According to Anne Sewell, it "is now being sidelined by Trump’s Freedom 250."[12]
