The Guayaco bully foam frog, rana túngara guayaca, or sapito bullanguero Guayaco (Engystomops guayaco) is a frog. It lives in Ecuador.[2][3][1]
Body
The adult male frog is 15.45–19.38 mm long from nose to rear end and the adult female frog is 16.77–20.98 mm. The skin of the frog's back can be brown or gray-brown in color. Some frogs have darker marks and some do not. The belly is cream-white in color with gray marks. The throat is gray in color. The iris of the eye is light brown in color.[3]
Name
Scientists named the frog for the people who live in Guayaquil in Guayas Province.[3]
Home
This frog lives in Guayas, Cotopaxi, Los Ríos in Ecuador. It lives in dry tropical forests[3] where the trees are 20 m or shorter with many smaller plants nearby. But, in these forests, the frogs are found in places where people have taken away some of the plants. Scientists think the frog became itself in open areas, but then human beings changed Ecuador's open flooded grassy places. Scientists have seen the frog between 15 and 300 m (49 and 984 ft) above sea level..[2][1]
Scientists have seen the frogs in protected places: Reserva Cerro Masvale, Reserva Ecológica Andrade Jauneche, and Reserva Ecológica Manglares Churute.[1]
Young
The male frogs float on the water and call to the female frogs. These animals have young in flooded rice fields and pools of water that are not deeper than 20 cm. The females put their eggs in nests made out of bubbles that float on the water.[3]
Danger
Scientists from the IUCN say this frog is in some danger of dying out. Human beings have cut down many trees to get wood to use and make farms and places for cows to eat grass. In other places, the forests are becoming deserts, or the ground is wearing away. Scientists think chemicals that kill pests can also hurt these frogs.[1]
