The Cypriot pound, also known as the Cypriot lira (Greek: λίρα, plural λίρες, and Turkish: lira, Ottoman Turkish: لیره, from the Latinlibra through the Italianlira), was the national currency used in Cyprus until December 31, 2007. It was replaced by the euro in Cyprus and Malta on January 1, 2008 at a fixed exchange rate of 0.585274 pound per euro.
