Cossacks 3 is remake of the real-time strategy game Cossacks: European Battles released in 2001, developed by Ukrainian studio GSC Game World. The game was released on September 20, 2016 on the PC platform (Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux). Similarly to the original, the game is set in the realities of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Gameplay

The basics of gameplay and economic development in Cossacks 3 remain the same as in Cossacks: European Battles. As in the original, players compete on randomly generated maps, gathering resources, building settlements and fighting battles with a computer opponent or among themselves in multiplayer mode. Skirmishes take place both on land and at sea, and can scale up to 10,000 troops. About 70 different types of units, 100 scientific researches and more than 140 different historical buildings have been put at players' disposal.

In the premiere version of the game, there are twelve nations to choose from. They are: England, France, Spain, Sweden, Prussia, Austria, Venice, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and Algeria[1]. The Days of Brilliance add-on allows the player to choose Denmark and the Netherlands. According to the producers, with the next DLC the number of nationalities is expected to increase to twenty[2].

Changes compared to predecessors

Major changes include a new full 3D graphics engine and artificial intelligence written from scratch. More minor changes include several new types of units, a revised appearance of some buildings and modified statistics for some of the upgrades. In addition, the maximum number of people who can play on one map simultaneously in multiplayer mode has been increased (from seven to eight). The game also offers five new historical campaigns in single-player mode[3] and a brand new soundtrack.

The game's producers promise extensive support for mod makers and the provision of a range of tools for editing the game. These will be the same tools that developers use to produce the game. They are to allow you to freely modify the content of the game and even create your own productions on its engine[4].
