Convallarioideae is a subfamily of plants in the family Asparagaceae. The plants in this subfamily are monocots, meaning they sprout one leaf first. The Subfamily used to be in its own familly, Ruscaceae, until they were placed in asparagaceae during 2009. The subfamily contains 23 genera with over 700 speceis in total. The type species is the Lily of the valley. Despite the name of the flower, its not a true lily. The subfamilly has a wide variety of speceis because they all look different, from house plants like Lucky bamboo, small flowers like the lily of the valley, and very large trees like the elephant's foot which can reach over 26 feet (8 meters) tall. Some genera like dracaena are popular houseplants while other speceis of plants like sealwort contain highly toxic berrys. The leaves and stems of sealworts are also harmful. Some of the most popular plants in this subfamily contain the Snakeplants, cast-iron plants, and dragon trees.
