Coinmarketcap is a website that provides information on the prices and market capitalizations of various cryptocurrencies.

Coinmarketcap was founded in 2013 by Brandon Chez. In 2020, CMC was acquired by Binance but runs independently. CMC launched an educational rewards program in 2020, and a educational portal called CMC Alexandria in 2021. In December 2021, CMC experienced technical glitches with cryptocurrency prices for a short period. In November 2021, Coinmarketcap helped the Vice, New York Times and some other media to detect the meme coin called Squid Game as a fraud scheme. The website is also a source for crypto exchanges rankings. Kraken is named as the second largest US cryptocurrencies exchange by the New York Times who reference to Coinmarketcap.[1][2][3]
