The Coast Meridian Overpass is a cable-stayed bridge that crosses over the Canadian Pacific railyard. It contains four lanes of Coast Meridian Road and connects the northern residential areas of Port Coquitlam to the southern industrial and business areas of the city. It is both owned and maintained by the City of Port Coquitlam. It was built to help with traffic that started to build because of the CP railyard cutting off the north and south areas of the city.
During the construction of the bridge, it was one of the longest in North America at 125 m.[1] The designing of the bridge was handled by Canadian engineering company SNC-Lavalin and costs for construction were $132 million.[2][3]
The bridge was opened on March 7, 2010.[4]
