María del Carmen Calvo Poyato (born 9 June 1957) is a Spanish politician and author. She became the Deputy Prime Minister of Spain in June 2018 and Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Cortes and Equality in January 2020. Calvo is a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party.
Calvo was born in Cabra, Spain. She studied at University of Seville and the University of Córdoba.
From 2004 until 2011, she was a member of the Congress of Deputies. In 2019, she was re-elected to the congress.
On 25 March 2020, Calvo tested positive for COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain.[1][2][3] She made a recovery from the illness in May 2020.[4]
