Body (car)
This page or section needs to be cleaned up. (July 2026) |
A car's body is part of the structure of an automobile. The body sits on the car's vehicle frame, called the chassis. In the early days of automobile building these were two quite separate parts, but modern building uses a unibody. This makes the car's body a part of the framework of the vehicle. Most trucks and buses are still built with the separate body and chassis.

Cars can be put into groups based on the shape of their body, for example a hatchback, a limousine, an SUV or a sedan.
Description
They are usually made of metal or steel[1]. When an accident occurs, some parts remain intact, while others do not[2].
