Bodo Ramelow (German pronunciation: [ˈboːdo ˈʁaməlo]; born 16 February 1956) is a German politician. He is the Minister-President of Thuringia since 4 March 2020. He was the President of the German Bundesrat from 1 November 2021 until 31 October 2022. He is a member of The Left party.
Early life
Ramelow was born in West Germany. His father died when he was eight years old due to jaundice.[1] He trained as a salesman at Karstadt from 1971 to 1974.[2][3]
Political career
He joined the Party of Democratic Socialism in 1999. He was elected to the Thuringian State Parliament in 1999. In 2001, he was elected as the chairman of the state parliamentary group.
In 2014, he was elected as the Minister President of Thuringia. He was elected again as Minister President in 2020.
