Baking mix
A baking mix is a convenience product that is used to make dough. Baking mixes are sold as powders. Usually, only water needs to be added. Baking mixes exist for ifferent baked products. The most common ones are those for bread, and those for cakes. The idea is thar as a convenience product they save time and they guarantee a consistent quality. A baking mix will contain flour, salt, and a leavening agent. It may also have other ingredients. Because they are dry, they have a long shelf life, at room temperature.
The first baking mixes were developed in England, during the Industrial Revolution. Henry Jones (1812–1891) from Brisol patented his "self-raising flour". This is seen as the first baking mix.
Industrisally, baking mixes have been produced sice the middle of the 20th century.
