Baghdad International Airport (IATA: BGW, ICAO: ORBI), previously Saddam International Airport (IATA: SDA, ICAO: ORBS) (Arabic: مطار بغداد الدولي), is Iraq's largest international airport. It is located in a suburb about 16 km (9.9 mi) west of downtown Baghdad in the Baghdad Governorate.
It is the home base for Iraq's national airline, Iraqi Airways.
On 3 January 2020, Baghdad International Airport was the location of a U.S. airstrike that killed Qassem Soleimani, leader of Iran's Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces, as well as numerous civilians.[3][4]
