Ash'arism

Ash'arism (Arabic: الشِّعْري) is one of the main branches of Sunni Islam and was founded by Abu Hasan al-Ash'ari around the 9th or the 10th century.[4] It was formed as a middle ground between the branches of Atharism and Maturdism.[1]

Most Ash'aris follow the Shafi madhab (school of Islamic jursiprudence) of Sunni Islam, but a minority follows the Maliki madhab.[5] Ash'aris are generally considered to be Sunni.[6][7]
