When the Meurthe-et-Moselle department was created in 1871, the arrondissement of Lunéville was part of that original department.[2]
Geography
The arrondissement of Lunéville is in the southeast of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department. It is bordered to the north and east by the Moselle department, to the southeast by the Bas-Rhin department (a short border), to the south by the Vosges department and to the west by the arrondissement of Nancy.
The arrondissement of Lunéville has an area of 1,450.7 km2 (560.1 sq mi) and a population of 79,567 inhabitants.[3]
