Area code 740 and 220 is an area code serving a region in the state of Ohio, United States. It covers a diverse range of communities in central and southeastern Ohio, such as Columbus, Newark, Lancaster, Marion, Zanesville, Athens, Chillicothe, and Portsmouth. It was created in 1997 as a split from area code 614. It was overlaid by 220 on April 22, 2015, which is the lowest numbered interchangeable area code to not have a 0 or 1 as the middle digit.[1]
