The Angom dynasty (Meitei: ꯑꯉꯣꯝ ꯅꯤꯡꯊꯧ ꯃꯌꯨꯝ, romanized: A-ngom Neeng-thou Mayuum, lit.'Royal house of the Angom clan') was a family of rulers of the Angom group of people in Ancient Kangleipak (early Manipur).[1][2][3] Their royal capital was at Kongba.[4] The Angom dynasty or clan was founded by Pureiromba, the first chief of the Angom clan,[5] and a senior contemporary of the Meitei king Nongdā Lāiren Pākhangba of the Ningthouja dynasty. According to Indramani, the progenitors of Angom had different names ranging from Purang Pureiromba, Chingwanglakki Pureiromba, Angouba Pureiromba, and so on.[6] According to KC Tensuba, there were thirty Angom kings starting from Pureiromba to Lamphel Ngamba. The Angom and Ningthouja kings sometimes had hostilities with each other. The Angoms had helped support Pakhangba ascend the throne of Kangla, but problems started when Poireiton migrated to Kangleipak. The Ningthoujas beat the Angoms, making them run away to a place called Khamgoi (Khangkhui). This caused a lot of chaos. Later, Kainou Chingsomba became the king of the Angoms, while his brother Angou Pureiromba moved to Lamlai.[7]

It could be for this reason that various sources mention Angou Pureiromba and his elder brother Kainou Chingsomba as the ancestors of the Angom clan.[8] The Angom territory was merged into the Meitei territory in 6th century, when King Sameirang of the Ningthouja dynasty defeated and killed the Angom king Kwakpa Thawanthaba.[9][10][11]
