Ali Shamkhani

Ali Shamkhani (29 September 1955 – 28 February 2026) was an Iranian naval officer and politician who served as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran from 10 September 2013 to 22 May 2023 and Member of Expediency Discernment Council of Iran from 22 May 2023 to 28 February 2026. He used to be the leader of both the IRGC Navy and the Iranian Navy. He was also a political advisor of the Supreme Leader of Iran from 2023.
He was one of the officials in charge of talks between Iran and the United States to try to reach a nuclear agreement.[1]
In June 2025, during the Twelve-Day War, he was badly hurt in an Israeli airstrike. At first, news reports wrongly said he died, but later he appeared in public again. However, he was killed eight months later, on February 28, 2026, during the 2026 Iran War.[2]
