Alan Mackay-Sim AM (16 May 1951 – 4 January 2023) was an Australian biomedical scientist. His research into stem cells lead to the treatment of spinal cord injuries. He was named Australian of the Year in 2017.[1]
Mackay-Sim was born in Wahroonga, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. He was married and had two children.
In 2015, Mackay-Sim was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He died in January 2023, at the age of 71.[2]
