History
The Afghanistan National Olympic Committee was formed in 1935. It was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1936.[ 4]
Afghanistan's team first competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin .[ 1]
In 1999, Afghanistan was banned from the Olympics due to its discrimination against women under Taliban rule.
In the 2004 Summer Olympics two women, Robina Muqim Yaar and Friba Razayee , were the first women to compete for Afghanistan at the Olympics.[ 5] Mehboba Ahdyar , a woman in the 2008 Summer Olympics had death threats because of her plan to be in the Games.[ 6]
