7 Mages

7 Mages (Czech: Brány Skeldalu: 7 Mágů) is a 2016 role-playing video game developed and published by Napoleon Games. It is the third game in the Gates of Skeldal series and was released for Windows, Android, iOS, OS X, and Linux.

The game is a tactical, turn-based dungeon crawler that features a unique system of musical magic, where each character uses instruments to cast spells that affect nearby characters. The story is loosely inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s film Seven Samurai.

Gameplay

7 Mages uses grid-based movement with real-time exploration and turn-based combat. Each mage has a specific role, such as warrior or archer, and can use different types of magic, including elemental and musical magic.[1] Musical magic becomes weaker over distance and can heal allies, restore mana, or resurrect fallen characters.[2]

Reception

The iOS version of 7 Mages received critical acclaim, holding a score of 90% on Metacritic.[3] Reviewers praised the game’s combat, puzzles, and dungeon design, while noting that the story was less strong than other elements.[4]

The game won the Czech Game of the Year Award for Best Story in 2016.[5]
