On January 9, 2024, an intense tornado, along with a satellite tornado, struck Lower Grand Lagoon and the western portion of Panama City in Florida.[1] The intense "parent" tornado was rated EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita scale by the National Weather Service, and the satellite tornado was rated EF0.[1][2][3]
The tornado started as a waterspout and moved onshore Spyglass Drive in Lower Grand Lagoon. In this area, several homes sustained significant damage and one home along the beach was completely destroyed. The damage to that home was rated EF3, with winds estimated at 140 miles per hour (230 km/h).[1]
