Oblačnost predstavlja ukupnost oblaka koji su uočljivi na nebu, posmatrano u određenom trenutku ili periodu. Izražava se u desetinama od 0 do 10 ili u procentima pokrivenosti neba oblacima. Oblačnost je jedna od najvažnijih klimatskih elemenata.

Merenje oblačnosti

Za merenje oblačnosti ne postoji nikakav instrument. Ona se procenjuje "od oka“,prostim osmatranjem neba. Ukoliko se na svodu ne uočavaju oblaci,onda je vreme vedro,ako je pokrivenost do šest desetina to je umereno oblačno,dok u slučaju celokupne pokrivenosti neba govorimo o potpuno oblačnom vremenu. U slučaju kada su oblaci "razbacani“ po nebu,pristupa se njihovom vizuelnom grupisanju o određivanju oblačnosti. Meteorologija i klimatologija bave se osmatranjem,proučavanjem i definisanjem ovog klimatskog elementa.

Godišnji tok oblačnosti

Relativna vlažnost i oblačnost imaju uglavnom podudarne godišnje tokove. Najveća oblačnost je oko ekvatora, u suptropskim predelima tokom zime, kao što je i slučaj sa umerenim pojasom. Najmanja oblačnost je u polarnim predlima i u letnjim mesecima u umerenom pojasu. Prosečna oblačnost na planeti Zemlji je 54,4% (tj, 5,5). Ona je uvek veća iznad okeana, a manja iznad kopna. Posmatrano po mesecima u godini — jul je najoblačniji, a mart i april su najvedriji. Na kartama se ovaj trend najvernije prikazuje izonefama. Mesto sa najvećim iznosom oblačnosti na svetu je Ben Nevis u Škotskoj.
