Afonso I, vojvoda od Bragançe (Estremoz, oko 1380.-Chaves, 1461.) bio je nezakoniti sin Portugalskog kralja João I, poznat kao osnivač moćne Dinastija Bragançe koja je Portugalu dala 15 monarha.[2]

Biografija

Afonso je rođen u ljubavnoj vezi Joãa sa Inês Pires, u vrijeme kad još nije bio kralj. Otac ga je primio na dvor 1401.[1] i zajedno sa svoja tri zakonita sina Duarteom, Pedrom i Henriqueom 1415. poveo u kampanju na Maroko.

Uspješan završetak te kampanje rezultirao je trajnom okupacijom Ceute, zbog tog je João proglasio svo četvoro vitezovima. Ali je kasnije po povratku Pedra i Henriquea proglasio vojvodama (od Coimbre i Viseua), ali ne i Afonsa, kog je to zaboljelo.[2]

Tu nepravdu ispravio je njegov unuk Afonso V koji mu je 1442. dodjelio dodjelio titulu Vojvode od Bragançe i veliki feud. i tako ga učinio najbogatijim feudalcem u zemlji.[2]
