Джо́нни Хо́ртон (англ. John Gale "Johnny" Horton; 30 апреля 1925 — 5 ноября 1960) — американский певец в стиле кантри. Очень популярными были такие его песни, как «Honky Tonk Man» (его самый первый хит) и «North to Alaska»[1].

Под конец карьеры записал серию исторических песен-историй, среди которых «Johnny Reb», «Sink The Bismark» и «The Battle Of New Orleans»; теперь его больше всего помнят именно благодаря им. С написанной Джимми Дрифтвудом песней «The Battle Of New Orleans» Хортон побывал на первом месте не только кантри-, но и главного поп-чарта страны «Billboard Hot 100»[1]..

5 ноября 1960 года, возвращаясь с концерта в Остине, штат Техас, трагически погиб в автокатастрофе. Водитель встречной машины находился в состоянии алкогольного опьянения[1].

Награды

За 1959 год Джонни Хортон был удостоен за песню «The Battle Of New Orleans» премии «Грэмми» в категории «Best Country & Western Performance». Автор же этой песни Джимми Дрифтвуд был удостоен за неё «Грэмми» как за «Песню года»[2].

Наследие

Почти тридцать лет спустя песня «Honky Tonk Man» опять зазвучала повсюду, уже в кавер-версии Дуайта Йокама. Для него она тоже стала первым хитом[1].
