Джон Спенсер Пурди (англ. John Spencer Purdy, 25 сентября 1935, Сидней — 27 августа 2011, Тари) — австралийский шахматист. Двукратный чемпион Австралии (1955 и 1963 гг.).

Биография

Дж. Пурди был сыном С. Пурди и внуком С. Крэкенторпа. Он начал серьезно заниматься шахматами в возрасте 13 лет. В 1951 г. выиграл юношеский чемпионат Австралии, еще через 4 года — главный чемпионат страны (Дж. Пурди стал самым молодым победителем чемпионата Австралии). Пурди представлял Австралию на юношеском чемпионате мира 1955 г. и в зональном турнире претендентского цикла 1963—1965. В 1971—1972 гг. Дж. Пурди занимал пост президента Шахматной федерации Австралии.

В декабре 1958 г. Дж. Пурди женился на Фелисити Стэплтон. У них родились сыновья Колин и Майкл.

Дж. Пурди получил экономическое образование и с 1956 по 1973 гг. работал в Ассоциации сотрудников типографий и работодателей смежных профессий (Printing and Allied Trades Employers' Association).

Затем он получил юридическое образование и работал в Управлении барристеров Нового Южного Уэльса. В 1980 г. он стал главным исполнительным директором этой организации.

С 1984 по 2005 гг. Дж. Пурди был членом Австралийского суда по семейным делам.

В 2003 г. Дж. Пурди перенес операцию на аорте.

Пурди скончался в городе Тари и был похоронен в часовне Камелии на кладбище Макуори.
