Турнир претендентов по шахматам 1950

Турнир претендентов 1950 — соревнование для определения соперника Михаила Ботвинника в матче за звание чемпиона мира по шахматам 1951 года. Проводился впервые в новой системе розыгрыша первенства мира, принятой ФИДЕ в 1946 году.

Состоялся в Будапеште с 9 апреля по 20 мая 1950 года. Играли 10 участников в 2 круга.

К участию в турнире были допущены участники матч-турнира 1948 года (Василий Смыслов, Пауль Керес, Сэмюэл Решевский и Макс Эйве), 5 победителей межзонального турнира и персонально приглашённый Ройбен Файн. Однако Эйве и Файн отказались от участия, а Решевскому американские власти не разрешили поездку в Венгрию. Поэтому были допущены ещё 4 участника межзонального турнира (Игорь Бондаревский не смог играть из-за болезни).

После 1-го круга без поражений лидировали И. Болеславский (6 очков) и П. Керес (5½). Во 2-м круге лучше всех сыграл Д. Бронштейн — 7 очков; выиграв в последнем туре партию у Кереса, он догнал Болеславского.

Болеславский и Бронштейн разделили 1-2 места, и для определения соперника чемпиона мира был назначен дополнительный матч из 12 партий (Москва, 31 июля – 27 августа). После 12 партий счёт был 6 : 6, и матч продолжился до первой победы. Её в 14-й партии одержал Бронштейн, который и стал победителем соревнования.
