Мосхи

Мо́схи (др.-греч. Μόσχοι) — одно из древних грузинских племён, проживавших в южной Грузии — Месхетии. Это название племени встречается у авторов античного времени (Гекатей Милетский, VI век до н. э.). Мосхи считаются потомками мушков, упоминаемых в древневосточных (ассирийских и урартских) источниках, и предками более поздних месхов. После падения Фригийского царства в 676 год до н. э. эти племена двинулись на северо-восток и обосновались на юго-западе Грузии. В V веке до н. э. мосхи вместе с другими племенами юго-восточного Причерноморья (тибарены, макроны, моссинойки) входили в состав 19-й сатрапии Державы Ахеменидов[1]. Мосхи, вооружённые небольшими щитами и копьями, участвовали в походе персидского царя Ксеркса I на Грецию. В I век до н. э. — I век н. э. мосхи локализуются в области Месхийского горного хребта, в пограничной местности между Иберией, Арменией и Колхидой. Название племени мосхи дало имя одной из частей Кавказских гор — Малому Кавказу, который в греческих источниках называется Мосхийские горы (греч. τὰ Μοσχικὰ 'όρη)[2][3].

В ряде источников мосхи идентифицируются не как отдельное племя, а как название в древнегреческих источниках месхов[4].
