Мать Барни принадлежала бывшему директору Агентства по охране окружающей среды и губернатору Нью-Джерси Кристине Тодд Уитман[3]. Его отца звали Келли.

Другая собака семейства Бушей Мисс Бизли[англ.] приходится Барни племянницей[4][5].
