A Guarda Municipal de Maracanaú é um órgão descentralizado e integrante da estrutura da Secretaria de Governo, implantada pela Lei Municipal nº.1004 de 08 de junho de 2005, alterada pela Lei Municipal nº.1268 de 05 de dezembro de 2007. Esta Lei dispõe sobre sua finalidade, competência e estrutura organizacional básica, assim como sobre o regime jurídico de seus dirigentes e demais servidores do seu quadro de pessoal.

OBJETIVOS OPERACIONAIS

                 A  Guarda  Municipal  de  Maracanaú  é  uma corporação uniformizada e tecnicamente equipada, de caráter eminentemente preventivo e defensivo,   destinado  à  proteção dos bens,    serviços e instalações municipais,   atuando naquilo  que  for do peculiar interesse do Município  e colaborando, no âmbito local, com a Polícia Militar, com a Policia Civil e com o Corpo de Bombeiros do Estado do Ceará. 
                Compete a Guarda Municipal, no âmbito local: proteger e vigiar bens e serviços, promover ou apoiar as realizações constitucionalmente cometidas ao município, a cargo de seus órgãos e entidades.
                Exemplo de várias ações atualmente desempenhadas:

   *    Segurança Patrimonial e pessoal;
   *    Ronda Escolar e Ronda da Saúde;
   *    Vigilância e proteção ambiental;
   *    Serviço de salvamento e apoio à  defesa civil;
   *    Ações recreativas e educativas.

               EFETIVO:
               Seu quadro efetivo atual é de 141 (cento e quarenta e um) Guardas Municipais, sendo 05(cinco) mulheres. O processo de integração da Guarda Municipal de Maracanaú é através de Concurso Público.
