Hino da Póvoa

O Hino da Póvoa é um hino erudito para a Póvoa de Varzim, escrita pelo compositor Dr. Josué Trocado (1882 - 1962) por volta de 1916. O hino era cantado pelo Orfeão Poveiro.[1]

Viriato Barbosa (em separata do Boletim Cultural – Vol.X – nº 1 – 1971) refere que era "imperdoavelmente dizia-se que ao Orfeão faltasse o seu hino! Ele que havia de viver e quem adivinhara, a morrer como o cisne a cantar, não cumpriria a sua missão se deixasse de proclamar alto e bom som a sua fé, nesse anseio de amor à Arte, numa elevação de espírito em cânticos de exaltação à terra em que florescera!" e "na récita da festa anual fixada para a noite de 9 de Setembro de 1916, ao levantar do pano no «Garrett», o volume de som das vozes daquela massa escura de homens, todos caras conhecidas, todos vestidos de preto alvejando-lhes os peitilhos das camisas, ressoa pateticamente a abrir o espectáculo com o hino."

Em 2004, o coral "Ensaio" voltou a cantar o Hino da Póvoa no Festival Internacional de Música da Póvoa de Varzim. Em 2009, Maria do Mar (pseudónimo de Conceição da Silva Pinto), autora de Marés (2004), apelou numa crónica num jornal local, O Comércio da Póvoa de Varzim, ao uso mais regular do mesmo.[2] A primeira resposta deu-se em Setembro por parte da Junta de freguesia da Póvoa de Varzim, órgão autárquico menor, que decidiu restaurar o hino, tocando-o no início de todas as sessões da assembleia de freguesia.[3][4]
