O Football League Championship de 2015–16 é a 113ª edição da "Segunda Divisão" do futebol Inglês, a vigésima terceira sob o formato atual.

Mudança de Times

No final da temporada anterior foram promovidos diretamente para a Premier League o Bournemouth, e o Watford, classificados em primeiro e segundo lugar respectivamente, no final da temporada regular. No final do Play-off, depois de ter atingido a 3ª posição na classificação, atingiu a promoção também o Norwich City, retornando de maneira imediata para a Premier League. O Millwall (22°), Wigan (23°) e o Blackpool (24°) foram rebaixados para a Football League One de 2015–16. Em seus lugares os três rebaixado da Premier League, são o Hull City, Burnley e o Queens Park Rangers, respectivamente "18°, 19° e 20°", e os três recém-promovidos da League One: Bristol City, Milton Keynes Dons, e o Preston North End após os play-offs.

Mudança nas Regras

Essa temporada é a última sob as regras iniciais da Financial Fair Play antes da mudança para as novas regras.[1] As mudanças do sistema financeiro da Championship permite que os clubes:[2]

  • Perdas aceitáveis de £2 milhões durante a temporada de 2015–16 (abaixado de £3 milhões durante a temporada de 2014–15)
  • Investimento aceitável de patrimônio líquido de £3 milhões durante a temporada de 2015–16.
  • Sanções por exceder os subsídios em vigor a partir do conjunto de contas deverá ser apresentado em 1 de Dezembro de 2015 para a temporada de 2014–15.

Play-Offs

Os Play-offs são jogados entre os times que terminaram entre o terceiro e o sexto lugar, com o vencedor final ganhando a promoção à Premier League. A semifinal dos play-offs terão o sexto colocado enfrentando o terceiro e o quinto enfrentando o quarto colocado. O time que terminar na posição mais baixa jogará o jogo de ida em casa e o de volta como visitante. Se o placar agregado estiver empatado após os dois jogos, então a prorrogação será jogada. Se o placar permanecer empatado, a vaga será decidida nos pênaltis. Gols fora de casa não contam.

Os vencedores das duas semifinais irão se enfrentar no Wembley Stadium em 28 de Maio de 2016 na Final do Play-Off.[3] O jogo é conhecido como o jogo mais rico do futebol, já que promoção à Premier League irá ajudar financeiramente o clube que alcançá-lo.
