Sima Bahous på Commons

Sima Sami Bahous (arabisk: سيما سامي بحوث ; født 1956) er en jordansk diplomat og kvinnesaksforkjemper, som er direktør for UN Women.[1] Hun var Jordans FN-ambassadør i New York fra 2016 til hun ble direktør i UN Women i september 2021.[2]

Bahous studerte engelsk litteratur ved Jordans universitet og tok mastergrad i litteratur og drama ved University of Essex og ph.d.-grad i kommunikasjon og utviklingsstudier ved Indiana University.[3][4] Ph.d.-avhandlingen fra 1988 hadde tittelen Communication Policy and Planning for Development: The Jordan Television Corporation: A Case Study.

Bahous arbeidet for UNICEF i Amman fra 1994 til 1995 og var utviklingsrådgiver i Verdens helseorganisasjon i Sanaa fra 1996 til 1997.[3] Hun vendte tilbake til Jordan i 1997 og ble direktør for Kong Hussein og dronning Noor-stiftelsene, en stilling hun hadde til 2001. Hun ble da medie- og informasjonssjef ved det jordanske hoff og rådgiver for kong Abdullah.[3] Hun var assisterende generalsekretær for Den arabiske liga i Kairo fra 2008 til 2012.

Fra 2012 var hun assisterende generalsekretær for FNs utviklingsprogram og leder for UNDPs regionalkontor for de arabiske statene.[5] I august 2016 ble hun utnevnt til Jordans FN-ambassadør i New York,[3][6]
