Reductio ad Hitlerum

Reductio ad Hitlerum (også å trekke nazi-kortet) er en argumentasjonsfeil som påkaller Adolf Hitler eller noe tilknyttet nazismen for å skape støtte for et poeng.[1] På norsk kalles det ofte hitling (når det spilles på Hitlers navn), brunbeising eller brunskvetting.[2]

Begrepet er skapt av Leo Strauss og brukt første gang i boken Natural Right and History som kom ut i 1953.[1]

«Reductio ad Hitlerum» kan grupperes som feil i antagelse eller flertydighet og kan være et stråmannsargument, et villspor, et «slippery slope argument», et ad hominem-argument, et sirkelargument, kan spille på fordommer eller på terror og være en sterk eller svak analogi.[1]

Tankefeil som involverer Stalin og andre diktatorer («reductio ad Stalinum») brukes også i diskusjoner.[trenger referanse]

Godwins lov tilsier at jo lengre en Internett-debatt blir, jo mer sannsynlig er det at debattanter trekker inn nazismen. Loven ble formulert av Mike Godwin i 1990.
