Protheca er en slekt av små borebiller.
Utseende
Små (gjerne 2 – 3 mm), ovale, blanke, mørke biller. Som oftest brunlige på farge, kroppen er kledt med fine, lyse, utstående hår. Hodet er vanligvis lite og noe nedoverbøyd, fasettøynene runde eller ovale, ikke oppdelt. Antennene er middels lange, de tre ytterste leddene danner en avlang, gjerne sagtakket klubbe. Brystskjoldet (pronotum) er vanligvis høyt hvelvet, dekkvingene rundede.
Larvene er korte og trinne, gjerne mer eller mindre hårete.
Levevis
Mange arter i denne gruppen borer i kjuker og andre sopper, blant annet røyksopp.
Utbredelse
Slekten er vidt utbredt i den Nye verden.
