Plombières-les-Bains på Commons

Plombières-les-Bains er en kommune i departementet Vosges i Grand Est det østlige Frankrike. Det er sentrum for kantonen Plombières-les-Bains. Kommunen hadde i 2013 en befolkning på 1 792.[3]

Les bains viser til de varme kildene i området, deres helsemessige egenskaper ble først oppdaget av romerne. I etterfølgende århundrer ble stedets badeanstalter besøkt av en rekke kjente personer; Montaigne, Voltaire, Napoléon Bonaparte, Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoléon III, Berlioz, Lamartine og Alfred de Musset.

Napoleon III møtte Camillo Benso di Cavour der i 1858 da de planla en forsvarsavtale som de facto var en oppdeling av de italienske stater slik at Piemonte fikk Lombardia og Veneto mens Frankrike fikk Nice og Savoie. Dette var starten på samlingen av Italia, og også en splid mellom diplomaten Cavour og aktivisten Giuseppe Garibaldi, som selv kom fra Nice.[4]
