Pinobius er en slekt av biller som hører til familien kortvinger (Staphylinidae). De kan kjennes på lang og smal, mer eller mindre sylindrisk kroppsform og nokså kort bein. Disse billene lever på bakken der den smale kroppsformen hjelper dem å ta seg lett fram mellom løvstrø og røtter.
Utseende
Små, slanke biller, mer eller mindre sylindrisk kroppsform. De fleste artene er mer eller mindre gul- eller brunaktige. Hodet er ganske stort, mer eller mindre firkantet, og skilt fra brystskjoldet (pronotum) ved en tydelig, smal "hals". Fasettøynene er ganske små og antennene tynne. Brystskjoldet (pronotum) er mer eller mindre hjerteformet. Dekkvingene er omtrent så lange som brystskjoldet, omtrent parallellsidige. Bakkroppen er lang og mer eller mindre sylindrisk, oftest kraftig punktert. Beina er ganske korte.
Levevis
Smalkortvingene er bakkelevende rovdyr som særlig finnes på litt fuktige steder.
Utbredelse
Slekten er utbredt i den Gamle verden.
