Overstyrmann

Overstyrmann er den dekksoffiser som har rang nest etter skipsfører på ett skip og overtar kommandoen dersom skipsfører blir ute av stand til å ivareta sine plikter.[1]

For å tjenestegjøre som overstyrmann på passasjerskip, lasteskip større enn 15 meter, fiskefartøy større enn 10,67 meter, samt på lektere, kreves det relevant kompetansesertifikat for dekksoffiser.[1]

Stillingen innebærer hovedansvar for laste- og losseoperasjoner, og behandling av last. Overstyrmann har også ansvar for skipets stabilitet, administrativt arbeid, samt sikkerhet og vedlikehold på dekk. Ofte er overstyrmann også medisinsk ansvarlig om bord.[2]
