Monica Birkenes (cirka 1983)[1] kjent under artistnavnet Mr Little Jeans,[2] er en norsk musiker og låtskriver bosatt i Los Angeles, California.[3] Hun har gitt ut to studioalbum: Pocketknife (2014) og Better Days (2022).

Pseudonymet Mr Little Jeans er inspirert av Kumar Pallanas karakter i filmen Rushmore av Wes Anderson.[4][5]

Musikken hennes har vært brukt i Gossip Girl.[2]

Bakgrunn

Birkenes vokste opp i Grimstad.[1] Hun er datter av en skipsbygger og en sekretær. I ungdommen opptrådte hun i teaterstykker og musikalske arrangementer, i tillegg til kirkekor og sykehjem. Som 18-åring flyttet hun til London for å studere drama, mens hun jobbet som servitør for å få endene til å møtes.[trenger referanse]

Musikkariere

Etter å ha signert kontrakt med det uavhengige plateselskapet Neon Gold, ga Birkenes ut sin første singel, «Rescue Song» i 2010. Britiske The Guardian sammenlignet stilen hennes med Lykke Li, Robyn og Annie.[5] Senere samme år ga hun ut sin første EP, med tittelen «Angel». Birkenes vokste i popularitet med hennes 2011 cover av Arcade Fires «The Suburbs».

Hun samarbeider ofte med produsent Tim Anderson, som var medvirkende til å lage hennes debutalbum, «Pocketknife». Albumet ble gitt ut på Harvest Records 25. mars 2014.[6]

I 2011 medvirket hun som komponist til Tysklands bidrag til Eurovision Song Contest, fremført av Lena Meyer-Landrut.[7]
