Milo Đukanović på Commons

Milo Đukanović (født 15. februar 1962 i Nikšić) er montenegrinsk politiker (Demokratska partija socijalista Crne Gore (DPS), Det demokratiske partiet for et sosialistisk Montenegro). Han ble 15. april 2018 valgt som sitt lands president[6].

Đukanović har tidligere vært Montenegros president i én periode (1998–2002) og statsminister i tre perioder (1991–1998, 2003–2006 og 2008–2010).

Liv og virke

I 1991 ble han, med støtte av Slobodan Milošević[trenger referanse] Europas yngste statsminister, på sin 29-årsdag. På 1990-tallet ledet han flere regjeringer i Montenegro frem til 1998.

Han brøt åpent med Slobodan Milošević i 1996–97. I 1997 gav han et intervju der langet ut mot Milošević og beskrev han som en mann med en antikvarisk politisk filosofi og som en person som omgikk seg med korrupte lakeier (henchmen).[trenger referanse]

Momir Bulatović var på det tidspunktet både president i Montenenegro og leder i det da pro-Milošević DPS-partiet. Đukanovićs nye linje oppnådde et knepent flertall i DPS.

Bulatović ble deretter, tydelig regissert av Milošević,[trenger referanse] statsminister i den føderale jugoslaviske regjeringen og grunnla partiet Socialistička Narodna Partija – Det sosialistiske folkepartiet (SNP) for å fortsette å støtte Milosevics agenda i Montenegro.

Etter å ha utfordret Bulatović og vunnet over ham i presidentvalget i 1997 ble Milo Đukanović tatt i ed som Montenegros president den 15. januar 1998.

Đukanović ble, etter parlamentsvalget i 2002 igjen valgt til Montenegros statsminister den 8. januar 2003. I 2006 ledet han an i kampen for et selvstendig Montenegro, som ble vunnet gjennom en folkeavstemning om uavhengighet fra Statsunionen Serbia og Montenegro i mai 2006, og ledet sitt land til ny selvstendighet.

Han hadde et opphold som statsminister 2006-08, men ble deretter igjen utnevnt. Etter valget i 2009 fikk hans parti 49 av de 81 setene i parlamentet, og han fortsatte som statsminister inn i sin sjette periode i stillingen. Den 23. desember 2010 annonserte Dukanovic at han går av som Montenegros statsminister.

Han er talsmann for et helt uavhengig Montenegro, integrert i Europa. Đukanović representerer DPA, som er republikken Montenegros største parti. Đukanović var tidligere medlem av kommunistpartiet.
