Maltitol
Maltitol er en sukkeralkohol ofte brukt som sukkererstatning. Det har 75-90 prosent av søtheten vi finner i sukrose, og like egenskaper, med unntak av at det ikke kan brunes. Det blir brukt som sukkererstatning fordi det har færre kalorier, ikke frembringer tannråte og har mindre utslag på blodsukkermålinger. Overdrevet bruk av maltitol kan imidlertid føre til fordøyelsesproblemer.
Maltitol har, sammen med maltitolsirup, E-nummer 965, og er tillatt for bruk i Norge og EU.
