Majjhimanikaya

Majjhimanikaya er en buddhistisk religiøs tekstsamling. Det er den andre av fem samlinger (nikaya) innenfor Sutta pitaka, som er en av «de tre kurvene» i Tripitaka, Theravadabuddhismens kanon.[1] Sutta pitaka er den av de tre kurvene som inneholder læreutsagn fra Buddha om buddhismens innhold.

Teksten består av 152 «sutta»'er (sutra), hovedsakelige dialoger mellom Buddha og hans disipler. Av disse suttaene kan nevnes den niende, Sammaditthi Sutta, om «Fullkommen forståelse» (et begrep fra den åttedelte veien; den tiende Satipatthana Sutta om meditasjon og rensing av sinnet; den 72., aggi-Vacchagotta Sutta, hvor nirvana sammenlignes med en ild; og den 118., Anapanasati Sutta, om pusteteknikk under meditasjon.

Utdrag fra teksten er oversatt til norsk og utgitt i samlingen Buddhas fortellinger, 2001 og i boken Oppmerksomhetstrening, kjernen i buddhistisk meditasjon av Nyanaponika Thera (Solum forlag, 1988).
