Long Island Rail Road

Long Island Rail Road (forkortet LIRR) er et jernbaneselskap i New York i USA, som betjener pendlere mellom øyene Manhattan i New York City og Long Island. LIRR driver den travleste nærbanen i Nord-Amerika, med cirka 335 000 passasjerer i døgnet.[1] Som det eneste pendlertogselskapet i USA, kjører LIRRs tog døgnet rundt, alle årets dager, med en del tog utenfor myldretiden, i helger og på helligdager. Det er til sammen 124 stasjoner og mer enn 1100 kilometer med jernbanespor.[2]

Selskapet ble etablert i 1834, og er dermed det eldste jernbaneselskapet i USA som fortsatt er aktivt.[3] Selskapet eies av Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) som MTA Long Island Rail Road. MTAs andre pendlertogselskap er Metro-North Railroad.
