Leisure Suit Larry 4: The Missing Floppies

Det fjerde spillet i Leisure Suit Larry-serien ble aldri laget. Både Sierra og fans har kalt det The Missing Floppies eller The Case of the Missing Floppies på spøk. Mye sladder og rykter har blitt spredt for å forklare hvorfor det ikke finnes noen Larry 4. Et av ryktene gikk ut på at diskettene kom bort og et annet at Al Lowes hund spiste dem. Lowe bekreftet at Larry 4 skulle bli en del av The Sierra Network-prosjektet.

Både The Laffer Utilities og VGA-versjonen av Larry 1 har noen ganger blitt uoffisielt kalt Larry 4 siden førstnevnte var den fjerde Larry-relaterte produksjonen og sistnevnte var det fjerde Larry-spillet som ble laget.

Det er to forskjellige grunner til at Larry 4 ikke ble laget og begge har blitt fortalt av Al Lowe på forskjellige tidspunkt:

  • Sierra prøvde å lage en spillverden på Internett kalt The Sierra Network, en forløper til dagens MMORPG. Denne skulle baseres på Larry og være Larry 4. Dette prosjektet ble stanset av tekniske grunner og prosjektet ble lagt på hylla.
  • Folk lurte på hvorfor Lowe ikke lagde Larry 4 etter denne kanselleringen. Grunnen var at slutten på Larry 3 skulle være den definitive slutten på serien. Larry og Patti jobbet hos Sierra og levde lykkelig i en hytte på fjellet i Coarsegold, California. Larry 3 fullførte derfor en historie som hadde gått over de tre første spillene, og Lowe klarte ikke å finne ut hvordan historien kunne fortsette.

Han bestemte seg for å hoppe over den fjerde delen og la noen deler av historien være ufortalt med vilje. På denne måten kunne han lage et nytt eventyr for Larry 5. At diskettene hadde kommet bort ble introdusert som en del av historien for å forklare hvorfor Larry lider av hukommelsestap i spillet.

Følgende er antatt å ha hendt mellom Larry 3 og Larry 5 for at disse spillene kan følge hverandre:

  • Larry og Patti planlegger å gifte seg
  • Patti forlater ham i kirka i Yosemite for å fortsette sin karriere, og Larry har forsvunnet når hun kommer tilbake
  • Skurken i Larry 5, Julius Biggs, stjeler diskettene for Larry 4, noe som gjør at Larry lider av hukommelsestap

Historien i Larry 5 leker med idéen om at siden det fjerde spillet ikke eksisterer, så kan ikke Larry huske det.

Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers, et annet Sierra-spill, lekte også med idéen om bortkomne disketter. Ifølge dette spillet ble diskettene stjålet av en agent for Sludge Vohaul uten at Sierra visste om det. De ble senere brukt til å lagre Vohaul etter at han døde i Space Quest II: Vohaul's Revenge.

Senere ble diskettene funnet i verdensrommet av forskere som jobbet på Xenon Super Computer Project. Da de installerte spillet på diskettene tok Vohaul over datamaskinen og hendelsene som ledet opp til den fiktive oppfølgeren Space Quest XII: Vohaul's Revenge II begynte.

Denne historien blir fortalt til hovedpersonen av Space Quest-spillene av et hologram i Space Quest IV.
