Jaak Madison på Commons

Jaak Madison (født 1991) er en estisk politiker. Han er medlem av Europaparlamentet fra 2019 og tilhører Gruppen av europeiske konservative og reformatorer (ECR).[5][6]

Karriere

Han vokste opp i Albu kommune. Han har vært kommunepolitiker i både Albu og Viljandi by. Fra 2015 til 2019 var han medlem av Riigikogu (Estlands riksdag) og europautvalget, som representant for Det estiske konservative folkepartiet (EKRE).[6]

I 2019 ble han medlem av Europaparlamentet og parlamentets utenrikskomité. Han tilhørte i sin første parlamentsperiode gruppen Identitet og demokrati (ID).[5][6] Madison har et nasjonalt utsyn; han ønsker å begrense EU-samarbeidet til økonomi og handel mellom suverene stater.[7][8][9][10]

Madison støtter en hard sanksjonslinje mot Russland som følge av Russlands invasjon av Ukraina. Synet på Russland medvirket til at Madison brøt med ID-gruppen og sluttet seg til Gruppen av europeiske konservative og reformatorer (ECR) etter valget i 2024.[11] Han meldte seg på samme tid ut av EKRE.[12]

I august 2024 meldte han seg inn i Det estiske senterpartiet.[13]

Utdannelse

Madison gikk estisk- og svenskspråklig gymnas i Noarootsi (Nuckö) i det vestlige Estland, og han hadde et opphold ved den svenskspråklige kristne folkehøyskolen i Hangö i Finland. Han har senere studert handelsfag, statsvitenskap og jus.[6] I 2023 tok bachelorgraden i jus ved Universitetet i Tartu.[14]
