White Sands (orig: White Sands) er en amerikansk kriminalfilm fra 1992 regissert av Roger Donaldson og skrevet av Daniel Pyne for Warner Bros. Filmen handler om en amerikansk sørvestlig småbysheriff som finner et lik i ørkenen med en koffert og 500 000 dollar. Han etterforsker mannen og snubler inn i en FBI-etterforskning. Filmen har en rekke stjerner som Willem Dafoe, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Samuel L. Jackson og Mickey Rourke.

Handlingsreferat

Ray Dolezal blir kalt til åsted for et tilsynelatende selvmord i en ørken. Ved siden av kroppen til Bob Spencer ligger det en koffert som inneholder 500 000 dollar. Under en obduksjon oppdager de et papir med et telefonnummer. Dolezal later som han er Spencer, ringer nummeret og går til et møte, hvor han blir ranet og instruert om å møte en mann ved navn Gorman Lennox ved en restaurant. FBI-agent Greg Meeker avlytter Dolezal og informerer ham om at Spencer jobbet undercover for FBI. Meeker foreslår at han fortsetter å late som han er Spencer, og hjelpe til med å arrestere Lennox.

Dolezal møter Lennox og hans velstående medarbeider Lane Bodine, og får vite at pengene er beregnet for kjøp av våpen og militært utstyr for å bevæpne venstreorienterte gerilja-krigere i Sør-Amerika. Våpenhandlerne demonstrerer våpnene for Dolezal og Lennox, men krever ytterligere 250 000 dollar på grunn av uforutsette utgifter. Meeker, som ikke er villig til å skaffe mer penger, skyver ansvaret over på Dolezal. I mellomtiden mistenker to andre FBI-agenter at Dolezal drepte Spencer og stjal pengene.

FBI-agenter arresterer Dolezal. Men Lennox kjører bilen med agentene av veien, Dolezal klarer å flykte, og returnerer til Lane Bodine. Lennox sier at han vet at Dolezal ikke er den virkelige Bob Spencer, fordi Lennox i hemmelighet arbeider for CIA og de ønsker at våpen-avtalen i Sør-Amerika skal gjennomføres som planlagt. En liten hær av FBI-agenter ankommer deretter i biler og helikopter, og skal forsøke å nøste opp i hva som egentlig skjedde.
